Bachelor of Medical Science Technology in Environmental Health Care is a course designed to prepare students for the technical and professional demands of careers dedicated to the protection of human health and environment.

This course embraces broad environmental ethics through human cooperation with nature, including safe home and workplace, clean water supplies, safe and available food supply, waste management and careful resource management for the future. With the development rising and population growing, this Environmental Healthcare course should be able to produce highly specialized trained workforce equipped with knowledge on theory and practical aspects to protect the environment and the well-being of Malaysian citizens. Through its curriculum which integrates the knowledge, attitude, and skill components, the graduates are prepared to meet the challenging endeavour as professional environmental health scientist.


The main objective of this programme is to produce graduates with depth knowledge and understanding of all major areas of medical science technology related to environment, with opportunity for a degree of specialization.

Course Content

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Hons) is made up of 131 credits. 108 units are allocated for the core (programme) subjects and the remaining 23 units are for the university subjects.

During the first year of study, students will learn subjects like Cell Biology, Human Anatomy & Physiology, Human Nutrition, Human Biochemistry, Human Genetics, Introduction to Environmental Health, Educational Philosophy & Psychology as well as Technopreneurship to give an early exposure to the students in the direction of technopreneur. In the second year, the students will have the opportunity to study subjects like Medical Microbiology, Medical Immunology, Human Pharmacology, Vector Control, Environmental Health Epidemiology, Environmental & Occupational Management Systems and Biology Human Disease. In the third year, the students will be guide to clinical subject like Air Quality Assessment & Control, Toxicology, Radiation Biology, Water & Sewage Management, Waste Management and Environmental Health Risk Assessment. Finally, during the final year, the emphasis will be on in-depth subjects such as Environmental Impact Assessment and clinical Psychology which help lead the students towards working life. The students also will be send for industrial training to gain practical experience in an actual workplace. Emphasis on communication and ‘soft’ skills, integrity and attitude are also evident by the occurrence of subjects related to psychology, ethics, morals and language.

Course Features and Benefits

This programme focuses on knowledge in field of environmental and health care as a competitive advantage, which enables graduates to communicate effectively with medical professionals involved in treatment and rehabilitation of individuals suffering environmental related diseases. Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates will be awarded the Bachelor Degree of Medical Science in Environmental Health Care (Hons.)

The programme was designed and developed with conscientious to match the specific needs of potential employers, regulators and modern society in general. The graduates will also be trained on quality management systems, including ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS18001, ILO-OSH 2001 and MS1722:2003. Apart from that, the candidates are introduced to the medical ethic, sociology and psychology in order to prepare them for their future career. In addition to implement the university aims to produce enterprising global technopreneurs, students are exposed to technopreneurship throughout their student life.

The students registered for this program are required to comply with activities which have been planned for them throughout the study duration. These activities will polish their soft skill (eg: communication skills, leadership skills and teamwork) while having fun participating the activities. These activities include community service activities, mentoring activities, field trip activities, industrial linkage activities as well as international exposure. These activities will give them great exposure to the medical industry locally and globally.
